US-Colombia tariff war halts as Colombian President accepts plane with 'illegal aliens' amid Donald Trump pressure

The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Colombia’s government has accepted all of President Trump's demands which include allowing the return of all illegal Colombian immigrants from the United States without limitations or delays even if they are brought back by US military aircraft.

According to Leavitt the tariff orders will stay in reserve and will not receive his signature.

The actions of today demonstrate to the entire world America's renewed status as a respected nation. President Trump intends to maintain intense protection of our national sovereignty while requiring international cooperation for deporting undocumented individuals from the United States.

During a press conference Colombian foreign minister Luis Gilberto Murillo declared that his country will keep accepting deportees who return to Colombia.

US-Colombia tariff war averted

Colombia reversed its decision to block deportation flights after Donald Trump imposed retaliatory sanctions.

President Gustavo Petro of Colombia declared a blockade of two US military flights transporting migrants to the country and requested improved migrant handling procedures from the United States to start the standoff.

Trump and Petro took turns defending their immigration policies on social media while Petro accused Trump of undignified treatment of immigrants during deportation and declared a 25 per cent increase in Colombian tariffs on US products.

The Colombian government dispatched its presidential aircraft to bring back deported nationals after succumbing to U.S. pressure according to the President's office statement.

The Colombian government established a 'dedicated team' to make sure deported Colombians receive "dignified treatment". The imminent threat of a tariff conflict has been temporarily avoided.

The Donald Trump administration responded to the refusal by implementing tariffs and retaliatory measures against Columbia. Immediately after taking office at the White House last Monday, deportation flights from the US became a frequent topic in the news.
